The Walk - Stage by Stage

This is a varied walk in terms of terrain and surroundings. It offers stretches of easy walking along level towpaths while also requiring some steep and constant climbs. The surroundings vary from open counrtyside to extensive forestry and some moorland stretches. The walking surfaces are mainly on well constructed paths or tracks with only limited field or grassland.

A section of the walking route will be closed to all walkers due to major timber harvesting between 1st November 2009 and 31st March 2010.
The section that will be closed is between Fort Augustus and Invermoriston, and we have to inform walkers that there are this year route diversions but they are over a very rough route. The route is marked by orange arrows but do note the rough and sometimes wet nature of the diversion and the fact that this is not suitable for bikes or horses. The exact location where the work is being undertaken is between Allt na Criche and Rubha Ban.
Should there be any update on this work that might effect acccess for walkers we will post the details on this page of the website.
